Client Profile:

The household is comprised of:
Mr. Alan Becker: He is a 63 year old widower retired dentist, who quit his dental practice due to a disability. He likes reading and watching movies. He had an accident 6 years ago and uses a wheelchair. He enjoys being with his daughter and his grandchildren, but he also likes to have privacy and isolation.
Mrs. Jenna Hunter: She is a 43 year old divorcee who works as a clerk in the local library. She enjoys her free time staying home cooking and baking for the family. She tries to feed the family with healthy, fresh food.
Lindsey Hunter: She is 20 years old and is a senior in an art school, doing a major in Video Production. She loves movies and she likes to collect classics. She likes to host friends at gatherings or to study.
Peter Hunter: He is a very active 4 year old boy who likes to play outdoors.

Concept Statement:

The Hunter's residence has a mix of contemporary and traditional elements, with an open feel. Mr Becker has his own suite on the first level for the sake of convenience, while being somewhat isolated for privacy. This space has a simple feel to it with eclectic elements to give some whimsy and interest. Shared plumbing walls and efficient, water saving fixtures will help with cost, while No VOC paint will provide cleaner air.

Walk Through

On the first floor, you walk in through the vestibule, which contains the closet. The first thing you see is a striking curved staircase made of wood. To the left is Mr. Becker's master suite, which is ADA compliant (wheelchair accessible). There is also a powder room in that same corridor. To the right is the great room, which is located in the tower. The great room has a door to block out noise from the open area. Then there is the large kitchen, that also has a study area so that Mrs. Hunter can keep an eye on her son's studying while she is cooking dinner. The dining area is behind the staircase, and has a view to the backyard. Between the garage and the kitchen is a mudroom, which is accessible through both those spaces and also the outside.

Up the staircase to the second floor (which has a cutout in the middle to the second floor) there is a window seating area with bookcases, that has a view to Lake Michigan. Mrs. Hunter has her master suite to the right (with lake view), her daughter has her room to the left and her son's at the other end. Both siblings share a bathroom, which is located between their rooms. It has a contained toilet room for convenience. Behind the master suite is a study.
